St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University
General Information
The Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnic University is one of the leading universities in Russia with an international reputation and student body of 18 000 including 1 500 from outside Russia.
The University has a century long tradition of quality teaching and research. Throughout its history it has built an impressive network of international contacts and has trained hundreds of students to enter the Russian University System.
Founded in 1996 on the basis of the University's Preparatory Department the Institute of International Educational Programs (the IIEP) is in charge of organizing and coordinating the University's international projects and programs in the field of education. It is housed in the spacious modern building, which is equipped with up-to-date facilities, including lecture halls and study rooms, computer labs, Internet and e-mail access, library, sports and training facilities, a large residents hall and a cafe.
Admission
For consideration an issue of entering St.Petersburg State Polytechnical University (SPbSPU) on all studying forms the following is required:
- To send a filled in form by e-mail.
- After receiving from IIEP an acknowledgement of the possibility to be entered the studying:
- to send a copy of the passport pages with the photo, name and surname, birth date and passport validity terms
- send a letter by e-mail or by fax where the place of visa receiving (country and town where the visa is to be received) and place of job and studying by the moment of the application to IIEP SPbSPU should be pointed out
- pay all the expenses for the invitation forming at the amount of 70$; the payment order is to be co-coordinated with the SPbSPU administration (the above named sum may be transferred to the IIEP account before the arrival to study)
- To get a visa on the ground of the "Invitation of the Interior Ministry of Russian Federation" in the RF Embassy or Consulate General in candidate's dwelling country
- To visit SPbSPU within 3 days after arriving at the St.-Petersburg
- 5 days before the arrival at St.-Petersburg to inform IIEP about the time of arrival (if the contract articles or a previous arrangement provide the meeting of the candidate in St.-Petersburg)
- on transferring from another Russian educational institution - to present a letter from this institution with the agreement to the transfer to SPbSPU.
- An original medical certificate including that of AIDS check-up given as far as 6 months before the documents are presented
- 10 photos sized 3x4 sm
Beside all the given above it is necessary to present:
- on entering in the pre-university foundation programme
- an original document (or its copy attested by a notary) of the full secondary education that gives the right to enter university according to the dwelling country's laws and point out the subjects studied, the marks for them and their Russian, English or French translation officially certified (one of the given languages)
- on entering in the bachelor programme:

The certificate of the State pre-university Faculty included in the Education Ministry RF List or the International Citizens Russian Testing Center certificate or a paper with the testing results from IIEP SPbSPU
3. on entering in the master's degree programme:
- An original document or its copy notarially attested (a bachelor, engineer degree certificate) and their Russian, English or French translation officially certified (one of the given languages)
- A diploma enclosure (academic certificate) with the studied subjects and marks for them and also their Russian or English translation (one of the languages pointed out)
4. on entering in the PhD degree programme:
- An original document or its copy notarially attested (a master or engineer degree certificate) with enclosures containing the before studied subjects the marks for them and officially attested Russian or English translations ( one of the given languages)
- A list of published works (if such exist)

- An educational department's conclusion (a chair of a Faculty) regarding the enter possibility with the next work's supposed theme and feasible supervisor's candidature pointed out.

6. on entering in the Russian language, culture and literature programme
- an inquiry-application with the nowadays Russian studying programme existing in IIEP SPbSPU or a desired programme pointed out the amount of studying hours per week necessary for the programmer's realization
- The international citizens entrance according to the pre-university foundation programmers ends on Dec.31. After Des.31 the enter may continue as but an exception by the IIEP administration's ruling
- The documents reception for the bachelor, master and engineer programmers (for the citizens entering the first course and the following) ends on August 31. The documents reception after August 31 may continue as but an exception by the SPbSPU vise-president for international relations ruling.
- The document reception for the PhD and scientific probation programmers or Russian language, culture and literature programmers and all the other educational programmers last year-long according to the treaties and studying invitations
- The international citizen's reception runs on the ground of the exams with aim of defining entrant's abilities to master up the respective educational programmers.
- For the international citizens the following kinds of the entrance exams are set up: an interview, testing or exams depending on the previous education document presented.
- The entrance in the pre-university foundation and Russian language, culture and literature programmers may run without the entrance exams if there is no contest (in a case when the presented educational documents correspond to the IIEP's demands)
- The international citizens entering the basic Faculties (institutes) of SPbSPU should get through a compulsory interview in the chosen Faculty. The interview's results are to be reflected in the entrant's personal application
- The examination results for international citizens who has finished the State pre-university Faculty included in the Education Ministry RF List can be considered as examinations for the studying in the SPbSPU.
- The international citizens who has finished pre-university Faculties (courses, departments, etc.) including the language ones not included in the Russian Education Ministry's List should pass exams or testing to the IIEP pre-university foundation programmed. The exams and testing capacity and its procedure is set up depending on knowledge of Russian, the amount of before studied material and next profession. The exams (testing) results are reflected in the examination or testing list
Minimum entrance requirements
Entrance into IIEP programs is based on academic performance; intending students should have a proven record and/or certificate of complete secondary education or previous education (BSc, MSc, PhD) as well as medical certificate, birth certificate. For details - see "Admission" unit of this site.
Proficiency in the Russian language for the foundation (preparatory) course is NOT required. At IIEP the students in groups have the same level of language skills. Our language and other subjects placement test determines the appropriate level - not too easy, not too difficult. You may test as you know Russian on-line.
If an international student wants to continue studies in a certain Russian college, university or technical school, IIEP will help him/her to meet the needs and qualifications and assist with the entrance application process.
Tuition
IIEP Academic year
The academic year at IIEP starts on September 1st, lasts from 8 to 10 months and is divided into two sessions: fall and spring (the duration depending on the date of the student?s arrival from September through November). IIEP caters specifically for international students and it assists them in all aspects of living and studying in Russia. Since 1997 IIEP offers programs for Russian students as well.
