Tomsk Polytechnic University University


Tomsk Polytechnic University is situated in the center of a beautiful and hospitable city Tomsk. The city was founded in 1604. Today its population reaches 600 000. The main branches of industry here are: oil and gas, instrument making, machine building, metal and wood processing, food processing, thermal and electric power production. Tomsk is famous for its scientific and educational spheres. After Moscow and Saint-Petersburg it s a third educational center. There are 6 universities, 20 higher research institutes and many specialized colleges and schools training
specialists in engineering, medicine, education, art, etc. Currently, each sixth person of the city is a student. Tomsk is often called a students'' town , so there are a lot of opportunities for successful studying and active life.

Tomsk is a city where you can find many places to relax after classes. There are many cafes, restaurants, snack bars and bistros, which are open till late and offering good food at very reasonable prices. There are night clubs and discos where you can dance to your favourite kind of music, or watch a floor show. If you want to take some exercise there are sports facilities and bowling parks in a number of places round the city. When you want a more serious cultural experience there are well-stocked art galleries to visit, a variety of museums in which to spend time. Tomsk is famous for its musical life.
All kinds of concerts and performances are available. Add in the theatres, both large and small and offering a range of classical and modern, experimental productions, and a cinema showing new movies, and you can see that it would be difficult to be bored in Tomsk.

Tomsk Polytechnic University Founded in 1896, Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) is the first technical institution of higher education in the Asian part of Russia having the greatest traditions in engineering education. Since its foundation more than one hundred thousand specialists have graduated from the University. More than 25 000 students study at the university today.

Tomsk Polytechnic University - a significant state scientific and educational centre of Russia - is constantly working at upgrading its educational courses and develops new ones that meet both individual and public requirements. Courses and teaching techniques used at the University fully demonstrate an
advanced experience in professionals training being up to European standards.

For successful studying and active leisure the university offers: 21 laboratories and academic buildings, research institutes and centers, international laboratories, research library, cafes and international cultural center, recreation center, sport halls, stadium and so on.

The first two-year study level includes modules in natural sciences, mathematics, socio-economics, humanities and a few speciality oriented modules. The study modules of the second level (the next two years of study) include advanced profession-oriented modules, subjects in natural sciences, electives from special socio-economics modules and training in industrial and other companies. A Bachelor's degree holder could be employed as a middle-rank engineer/specialist.
