General Information
MEPhI has trained thousands of highly qualified specialists. Among its graduates are Nobel Prize winners, the members of Russian Academy of Sciences, winners of different National Prizes. MEPhI's professors and alumni have made major contributions to various fields of theoretical and experimental physics, mathematics, cybernetics and computer sciences.
Today MEPhI enrolls about 6,000 students with six branches of MEPhI in other towns. Its mission is to advance learning through the integration of teaching, research and service to others.
MEPhI is recognized nationally and internationally for the quality of its programs.
The most important ingredient of graduate education in MEPhI is the combination of fundamental knowledge of physics and mathematics with profound engineering skills, enabling students to solve the current problems of contemporary science and modern industries.
The MEPhI has a well-balanced system of training students to do independent research work. The basis for the system is provided by comprehensive programs for the entire period of instruction. It is the practice at Moscow Engineering Physics Institute that senior students are trained at the research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and at the industrial laboratories.
No engineer can be successfully trained with the emphasis only on scientific and technical subjects. During the last years MEPhI significantly improved its curricula in humanities, economic sciences and foreign language realising that the exposure of the students to the culture of peace is of paramount importance for preparing students to live and work in the modern world
Admission
The STUDENT has to submit the following documents:
- a curriculum vitae;
- a notarized copy of the certificate of secondary education with the subjects studied and the corresponding marks received (for students);
- a notarized copy of the certificate of higher education including the subjects studied and the corresponding marks received (for postgraduates and trainees);
- a medical certificate testifying that the condition of the health of the candidate allows him/her to study at the UNIVERSITY (including the absence of AIDS infection);
- a certificate of birth;
- 6 photographs 4 x 6 - cm. size;
- a personal recommendation letter from an individual or an organization;
All the documents should be accompanied by the translations into Russian or into English and notarized accordingly.
Tuition
The foreign citizens can be accepted on any faculty provided by the Institute for training under the programs of the bachelor, Muster and Ph.D.
The training under the short programs for performance of concrete research and educational works by the students of other universities is possible.
The training at preparatory faculty is possible before education under the basic program. The training for perfection of the Russian is possible.
Basic language of the education is Russian.
The education in English is possible for groups of the foreign students no less 10.

Faculties
- The Faculty of Automatics and Electronics provides training of engineers in
Automatics, electronics, microelectronics, electrophysical installations, electrical engineering and pulse power technology, electronic measuring systems.
- The Faculty of Cybernetics provides training of engineers in
Design and development of advanced computers, information processing devices and monitoring devices of technological processes, special CAD systems, software and hardware development.
- The Faculty of Experimental and Theoretical Physics provides training of engineers in
Solid-State physics, plasma and elementary particle physics, boiphysics, ecology, cosmic physics and nuclear physics, quantum electronics, optical processors and photonics, applied mathematics, high energy physics, theoretical physics, medical physics, superconductivity nanoelectronics.
- The Faculty of Information Security provides training of engineers in
information protection in automated data processing systems and computer networks, specialists in computer law.
- The Faculty of Physics and Economics of high technologies provides training of engineers in
Theoretical and experimental physics of nuclear reactors and applied nuclear physics, molecular physics, physics of metal, material mechanics and design of physical installations and devices, applied economics.
- The Advanced Physics Faculty of Russian Academy of Sciences
In 1991 the Higher Physical College was founded in MEPhI with the purpose to create the conditions for development of the abilities of gifted students, to train the experts for work in the research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and international scientific centers.
- The Specialized Faculty of Physics provides training of engineers in
Solid-State physics, cosmic physics and nuclear physics, plasma and elementary particle physics, quantum electronics, biophysics, ecology and medical physics.
The admittance to the 3rd year of stady under the contracts from Universities and Technical Institutes.
- The Economic-Analytical Institute provides training of
economists-mathematicians, engineers-economists and economists-managers in the field of scientific technologies.
- The Preparatory Faculty provides training in
The Russian language, mathematics, physics and computer sciences for Russian and foreign students before the undergraduate programs.
- The Faculty of Foreign Students
Coordinates the enrollment and teaching of foreign graduate and postgraduate students.
The international students can apply for admission to MEPhI's undergraduate and graduate programs by containg the office of the faculy.
