Peoples Friendship University
General Information
The University was founded in 1960 by a special resolution of the USSR government. Over 49,000 foreign nationals from 160 countries have studied and graduated from this University which combines the classical structure of higher learning and always live objectives of educating and bringing up youth in the spirit of mutual respect. It is a state University subsidized by the Government of the Russian Federation, occupying the 3rd rating among classical universities in this country and a leading position in training of international students (out of total 23000 students - 4000 international students from 130 countries). The academic staff consists of 1900 lectures and professors (1300 PhD and D.Sc. holders).
This is not only a classic university combining various faculties, departments, and lines of study, but it is also a major research center. Since its creation it has trained a series of academics in scientific, humanitarian and other branches of knowledge. More than 350 professors and Doctors of Science, 900 assistant professors and PhDs teach and do research at the University.
The university is actively engaged in research effort and development activity in top-priority spheres, including activities carried out under orders from Russian and foreign firms. In 2006 University academics’ projects were boosted not only by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation but also by the Ministry of Health and Social Development, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russian Federation, Russian Foundation of Fundamental Research, Russian Humanitarian Scientific Foundation, National Training Foundation, American Civil Research and Development Foundation (CRDF).
Tuition
Since 1988 the University has introduced at its 10 Faculties (University Colleges) a two-level system of higher education training (Bachelor-Master)
This system is applied to the majority of 52 offered major courses. Graduates of some of the courses are not awarded with Bachelor Degree, but they receive the State Diploma of a Specialist in a corresponding field after 5 years and after 6 years (medicine) of study.
The duration of Bachelor course training is 4 years (excluding one year of foundation training at the Preliminary Faculty). Successful graduates of Bachelor courses are awarded with the State Diploma and academic degree of Bachelor of Science/Arts.
The graduates of Bachelor courses have the right to enter Master courses with the duration of training of 2 years. On completion of training the graduates of Master courses are awarded with the State Diploma and academic degree of Master of Science/Arts.
Duration of Programs
- Medical graduates with major «Medicine» (after 6 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma of a general practitioner and awarded with the academic degree of Medical Doctor (M.D.).
- Medical graduates with major «Dentistry» (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma and awarded with the academic degree of Master of Science in Dentistry (M.Sc.Dent.).
- Graduates with the major «Pharmacy» (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma and awarded with the academic degree of Master of Science in Pharmacy (M.Sc.Pharm.).
- The graduates of Agriculture Faculty with major «Veterinary medicine» (after 5 years of training exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma of Specialist in Veterinary Medicine.
- The graduates of Faculty of Sciences with major «Radiophysics and Electronics» (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma of Specialist in the field of radiophysics and electronics.
- The graduates of Engineering Faculty with major «Industrial Economics and Management» (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma of Economist.
- Beside that, the Engineering Faculty performs training of specialists while the graduates (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) apart from Bachelor Degree receive the State Diploma of Engineer (D.Eng. in Construction, Technology etc.)
- Graduates of all courses may take additional exam in Russian (or Foreign Language) in order to obtain the Diploma of Interpreter.

As of April 1, 2006 the University has 4499 highly qualified employees ready to face the challenging task of training skilled professionals in many spheres and do scientific-research work.

Application
Documents and conditions of admittance
Candidates for undergraduate (B.Sc./B.A.) training must have completed secondary education, confirmed with Certificate/Diploma recognized for admission to national universities.
Applicants are expected to submit the following particulars:
- certified copies of Passport (only main passport data) and Birth Certificate
- duly filled application form
- photocopy of Secondary School Certificate duly certified
- personal application for admission, indicating the course chosen
- medical certificate with all necessary tests results (HIV)
- 12 passport size pictures
Applications for admission are accepted from May 1 till August 30. Candidates approved for admission should send by e-mail the copy of the passport and address of living in the country of residence that is required for entry visa procedure. The accepted Students should arrive at the University between August 20 and October 01. Those who arrived later after December 01 will be enrolled to study an extended Preparatory course for 1,5 year – for 3-semester program (fees to be paid for 3 semester).
Candidates enrolled at the University will be admitted to the Preliminary Faculty for one year to study Russian language and basic subjects of chosen major.
The academic year starts on September 1. Students who successfully passed all exams of Preliminary course are transferred to the main faculties.
Contract
Foreign citizens, admitted to the University have to sign the Individual Contract.
The Contract stipulates the cost of tuition, accommodation and medical care.
The Contract defines the obligations of both parties: the Student and the University. According to the Contract University provides students with medical care which costs $ 200 per person per year, library & sporting facilities, and other services available at the University. Hostel accommodation is offered according to comfort categories and to be paid on special tariff. Undergraduate students' registration fee rate is $ 100 covering contract registration, consultancy, correspondence and inscription procedure costs.
The University's Fees (including tuition, accommodation, medical service) to be paid annually before September 15. Delayed payment of the fees will cause an inconvenience penalty.
The tuition fee will be reduced by 20 % for the current semester for students, who get only excellent results during the last 4 examination sessions (excluding the Preliminary course examinations). The reduction will be cancelled with the changing of academic performance.
Transport expenses to Moscow and back home after graduation to be covered by students or their sponsors.
